  1. Cummins to Ford 460 5-Speed and Automatic

    ZF5 Manual Transmission- 1987-94 Rated for 420 ft./lbs. 1995-97 470 ft./lbs.
These transmissions work ok behind the Cummins, but the gas versions may have wider spacing in the gear ratios than the diesel versions. If you are planning on high performance upgrades, consider a 6 speed swap- as the Cummins will produce more torque than this transmission is rated for.

E4OD Automatic Transmission- Unless it’s a Bronco or a F-150, this is what your truck has now if it is a 4 speed automatic. Substantial grinding to the bottom of the bell housing is necessary to fit the 15.25" Dodge Cummins flexplate. You may want to strongly consider the use of a diesel version of the E4OD transmission. The diesel bell housing is larger and doesn't require the afore mentioned grinding to fit the flex plate.

We recommend that you have performance upgrades done to this transmission if you will be doing heavy towing or making performance upgrades to the Cummins e

  3. Ford Transmission Control Module Tuning

DCS is very pleased to support the use of the Ford 6.0L & 6.4L Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCM) with the Cummins conversion .

The biggest advantages of using the Ford factory TCM is that you keep the tow/haul functions, retain your factory diagnostics with regard to the transmission, and the stock shift quality adaptive function is retained. We recommend our tuning services for the Ford TCM to assure proper transmission operation and to get the most from your conversion. Be certain to complete your conversion, per our instruction manual, before driving your truck. A service fee of $450.00 will apply for the tuning support, plus a SCT tuner will also be necessary (DCS is an Authorized Dealer). We offer two different options; the SCT X4 and the SCT Livewire TS. Data logs recorded by the customer are required for our Tuning Technicians to tune your transmission to its fullest potential when mated with a Cummins

  4. Cummins to Ford 7.3 Power Stroke ZF 6-Speed

The 1999-2003 Ford 7.3 Diesel 6-speed works well behind a Cummins engine. Ford started using this transmission in 1999. If your truck did not have one of these transmissions originally you may want to consider swapping one in, especially if you are planning to use your truck for heavy trailer pulling. They are rated for 520 ft/lbs of torque.

The adapter plate for this transmission uses a 2003 - 2007 Ford 6.0L diesel starter, depending on the adapter plate you order. Grinding the bell housing starter pocket is required to give necessary starter to transmission clearance.

The Adapter Plate Kit includes everything you need except a Dodge Cummins 6 speed flywheel, and clutch. While you're at it buy a South Bend Clutch Kit from us and then you'll have everything!

  5. Cummins to Ford 6.0 Power Stroke ZF 6-Speed

ZF6- Ford started using this transmission design in ’99 and they work well behind the Cummins. They are rated for 520 ft/lbs of torque. Our adapter plate for this transmission uses the Ford 6.0 starter, so no grinding of the transmission or engine block is required for starter clearance.

The best option is to use a Ford 7.3 ZF6 clutch with the proper flywheel all of which is included in the complete conversion kits and clutch kits that DCS offers.

  6. Cummins to Ford 5R110 Torqshift

Cummins and Ford 5R110 Automatic Transmissions:

Q: Do I have to grind the starter pocket when adapting this transmission to a Cummins?

A: No, you do not have to do any grinding to the bell housing for starter clearance.

Q: How is the 5R110 transmission tuned?

A: DCS maintains the stock Ford TCM/PCM and harness, and with the use of SCT Tuners we modify 5R110 shift points and torque converter lock-up to perform behind the Cummins engine.  Read up on our Ford TCM tuning for more detail. 5R110 tuning is only available for 6.0L and 6.4L diesel trucks. Access to a computer and email is required, a laptop is recommended for datalogging but not required.

Transmission tuning for gas trucks with 5R110 is not supported. Replacement of the 5R110 with a 4R100 is a viable option in gas trucks.  An aftermarket controller, such as US Shift, is

  7. Cummins to Ford 5.4 / 6.8 (V8 or V10 Automatic)

This adapter plate kit uses the 6.0L Ford Power Stroke starter. This is actually the same adapter that was designed for the 6.0L 5R110 automatic transmission but it also works for the 4R100, and allows you to upgrade in the future if you'd like. Two holes in the top of the adapter are not used (the 4R100 does not have these holes, and two in the bottom are either not used, or if you want to use them drilling out the threads in the bottom holes in the transmission is required.

We recommend using a stock or performance diesel torque converter for best efficiency. An aftermarket transmission controller is required for this conversion. See the overview for more information.

  8. Cummins to Ford 7.3 / 6.9 Diesel Automatic and Manual Transmissions

There is a split between the 6.9L and 7.3L diesel engines in the late 1980's. Using model years as a guide is usually a good way to judge which transmission you have however model year can not always be relied upon.

    6.9L Diesel Transmissions

T-19 4speed Manual- Identified by case number T19 or 13-09 and have a PTO cover on both sides. You will need a 12” clutch disc and pressure plate for a ‘83-’84 Ford diesel 6.9 / 7.3 that has a T-19. You will need the 11/16” starter spacer that we provide. Keep in mind without an overdrive your top speed can be very limited, and although these transmissions have a reputation for being tough, they are not as tough as the new ZF transmissions because of their smaller input shaft.

Additonal notes: Transmission adapter kit includes a custom flywheel. You'll also need a 12" Clutch disc and pressure plate.

C-6 Automatic- You must use a Throttle Vacuum

  9. Cummins to Chevy / GM Transmissions

We offer transmission adapters for the following Chevrolet and GMC Transmissions:
    TH350, TH400, 700R4, 4L60E**, 4L80E, Chevy Allison 1000 5&6 speed automatics

**Some 4L60E Transmissions use a 300mm torque converter. If your 4L60E transmission has a bolt hole at the top of the "tent" of the bell housing you have a transmission that will require the 300mm flex plate option that we offer.**

The adapters use the 2003-2007 6.0L Ford Power Stroke Starter. All adapters work with a stock dimensioned torque converter, so using your existing torque converter is possible, although we recommend using a OEM diesel converter at least for satisfactory performance.

We do not currently make adapter kits for Chevy manual transmission applications. Due to the small clutch (13.00") will not fit inside the Chevy bellhousing, we recommend upgrading to a Dodge or Ford 5-speed. If you already have a Chevy 5- speed, 1995 or newer, it can be converted to bolt to a Dodge bell housing.
